School Information for Montgomery County, Texas
If you are considering moving to Montgomery County, Texas, one of the top questions families ask is about schools. Montgomery County has many public school districts, private schools, and homeschooling options. Below you will find a clear guide to help you understand your options and find school zones for your address.
Public School Districts
Public schools in this area serve most families who live in Conroe, Lake Conroe, The Woodlands, Magnolia, Willis, Montgomery, and other nearby areas. Each school district has its own zones, calendars, and programs.
Finding Your Zone
The school your child attends depends on your specific home address, not just the city or community name where you live. School district boundaries do not always match city limits, and neighboring streets can sometimes fall into different districts or attendance zones. This is especially common in areas like The Woodlands, Spring, and Tomball, where multiple districts overlap. To determine which district and specific school campus your address is zoned for, use the Texas School District Locator tool provided by the Texas Education Agency.
You can also visit individual district websites listed below, as most offer their own address lookup tools that will show you the exact elementary, middle, and high school your child would attend.

Texas Homeschool Requirements
In Texas, homeschools are treated as private schools, which means parents can teach their children at home without registering with the school district or state. Here are the basic requirements:
- Required subjects: Your curriculum must cover reading, spelling, grammar, math, and good citizenship (civics). Science and social studies are not required by law but are recommended for college preparation.
- Written curriculum: You must use some form of visual curriculum, such as textbooks, workbooks, online courses, or videos. This is sometimes called operating in a “bona fide” manner.
- Withdrawal from public school: If your child is currently enrolled in public school, you must send a letter of withdrawal to the school district stating your intent to homeschool and the date homeschooling will begin.
- No testing required: Texas does not require state tests or assessments for homeschool students. However, parents should keep records of their child’s progress for their own use and in case the child returns to public school.
